5 Ways to Use Visual Marketing to Promote Your Business

The fact that visual marketing is crazy powerful is not news anymore. We can see it everywhere we go. Video, .gifs, images – anything pretty and easy to digest is working.

In an effort to kick of our upcoming Visual Social Media Conference, Jeff Sieh, Vincent Ng and I teamed up to give a basic overview of the power of visuals – along with some tips marketers can use now. Jeff is great with video and does the manly thing on Pinterest so well! Vincent is big into search and the technical aspects of Pinterest.  Whereas I tend to focus on the lead-generating possibilities (thanks, HubSpot). In this Manly Pinterest Tips hangout, we took turns to give a basic overview of the power of visuals.

After an overview of some of the staggering numbers involved (300 million monthly active users on Instagram, 72.8M on Pinterest, 60M on SlideShare, and 50% of daily Facebook users  watching at least one video a day), we jumped into the specifics.

1. Create a Great Image for Your Blog Post

Every blog post deserves an image. We love images. Google wants us to be happy with the search results they are serving up, so they love images. Give people what they want to keep them on your site longer AND to encourage social sharing. Have you ever tried to pin an article with no good image? Frustrating? How often will you go to the trouble of making one for them? I’m guessing it’s not often.

Even if you are not a big pinner, think about the pinners out there you might be turning away, or the other social sharing allies who don’t like the way your link appears on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter. Not to mention the fact that if you’re using Instagram, you should be sharing your images there to get more people to visit your blog.

Social shares are not just vanity favors. They often end up generating quality leads. Give your content its best chance – give it at least one image!

2. Create Social Images That Engage

Your social images, like your blog post images, are part of your brand. Make them unique – just like you! Jeff shared some beautiful examples (check out the slides below) of brands whose images are immediately recognizable by their style. What’s your style? He also shared the importance of repurposing your work and creating images for each social platform. Good stuff.

3. Slideshare

The content marketer’s secret weapon, Slideshare is an incredibly powerful way to get your ideas in front of a large audience of discerning viewers. Repurpose your presentations for use here and give them a whole new life! You can include links to your site or other resources on any slide after the first two. Give it a try – you may be surprised at the visibility it brings.

4. Visuals on CTAs and Landing Pages

On your landing pages, try to provide a visual representation of what you’re offering. It could be a representation of the ebook they’re about to download or even the potential result of whatever they’re signing up for (think, fitness program – show what they could look like). Using contrasting colors for your CTA will help draw attention to the desired action. You can see some great examples in the Slideshare.

Another thing to keep in mind is consistency between your on-page CTAs and your landing page. If your CTA is all pastels and script, but your landing page is modern and hip, that disconnect can cause a person to lose trust and even wonder if they link was correct.

5. Connect with Video

Streaming, live, and recorded video enable you to connect on an extremely personal level. There’s something about seeing your face that builds trust in a unique way. With so many options available and with platforms such as Periscope making it incredibly simple – give it a try!
