Are you Slack -ing?

Are You Slack -ing? Check out this more-than-messaging communication system. https://alisameredith.com/are-you-slack-ing/It started with Jeff Sieh. He was using Slack in a mastermind group and wanted to try it for a project we were working on togehter. I was not having it. It was nice, but did I really need ANOTHER messaging system? Isn’t that what Skype and Messenger are for?

Then Ralph and Carol Lynn suggested we try it for our mastermind group. The same resistance.

Today, I got an invite from another agency I work with. Is Slack taking over the world??? I think maybe yes – and for good reason. It is awesome.

What’s the Deal with Slack?

Slack is a messaging system at its core. The best part is that you can create hashtagged channels to separate your conversations. We have channels for tools, tech support, fun, general, clients, projects, even therapy (you know, because sometimes you just have to rant). You can have private conversations with people. You can mention people. You can send files, images, even video.  The channels help things stay in context and make it easy for people to catch up if they are away for a while. You can also install the app on your phone.

Annnnd …. you can use /giphy to insert random animated images of various degrees of relevance. For instance, when I created a “fitness” channel, my wisecracking teammates responded with the following (though they later got in the spirit):

Beyond Messaging

Slack also has a powerful API capable of integrating with project management system Trello, Zapier, MailChimp, DropBox, Google Drive, and much more. For now, I’m just using it as a way to stay connected from a remote location, but since for some reason Gmail has become a black hole for important messages (Tweet me), this may help.

If you work with others at remote locations, check it out. Take it from a skeptic, you probably DO need yet another messaging system! If you’ve already tried it, I’d love to hear how you’re using it and if there are any must-try integrations you’d suggest.

I am slightly obsessed with Pinterest. Not just because it is fun, but because it works amazingly well for traffic and lead generation.
